As you build a strong management team and work on transitioning yourself out of the business, be sure to enjoy vacations in the year or so prior to selling. Buyers look for businesses that can run—and run well—without your constant attention.
Stop and think for a moment. If you took a month off, would you come back to locked doors? If so, then you’ve got some work to do. If your team can handle it…even with a call or a set meeting once a week…, you are moving in the right direction.
Can’t imagine leaving? Begin by taking a long weekend and build up one week at a time until you are enjoying a month, or even an entire summer, vacationing! It will be an exercise your family will enjoy and allow your management team to grow.
